How Is Holiday Stress Affecting Your Skin?

How Is Holiday Stress Affecting Your Skin?

If you’re experiencing itchy skin, rashes, dryness or other skin conditions there could be an underlying cause. It’s been proven that during the holidays your stress levels rise affecting your skin's overall appearance and texture.

If you’re experiencing itchy skin, rashes, dryness or other skin conditions there could be an underlying cause. It’s been proven that during the holidays your stress levels rise, affecting your skin’s overall appearance and texture. You may be wondering what you can do to reverse these holiday stress-induced skin symptoms.

Unfortunately, the bumps, redness, and rashes are a result of what is happening inside the body. When your body becomes stressed, it releases hormones which result in irritated skin. You may exhibit skin rashes, acne, bacne, redness, cold sores, dryness, itching, hives, psoriasis, rosacea, eczema, and seborrheic dermatitis just to name a few.

So, what can you do?

While there are some stressful situations that are unavoidable, there are some that you can manage.

Reduce your stress levels by taking care of yourself.

Taking some time to take care of yourself will enable you to take care of everything else. Make sure you are exercising daily, even if it’s just taking a walk outside. Eating the right foods will ensure you have enough energy to get that walk in and handle stressful situations that come your way. Plan a night where you can do something that makes you happy. It doesn’t matter what that is, as long as you’re laughing. Laughing has been proven to lessen stress levels.

Lighten your workload.

Delegating tasks whenever you can will also lighten your workload and allow for more time to work on the higher priority tasks that seem to cause the most stress. If you don’t have anyone to delegate your tasks to then consider getting a planner to keep you on track. Have a weekly brain dump and get everything out on paper and then prioritize.

Be realistic with yourself on what can be accomplished in one day and what items are okay to leave for the upcoming days. Let’s be real, those tasks are still going to be there tomorrow, so most of them can wait another day. No ones To-Do list is ever done in one day, unless they’re wonder woman or superman.

Manage holiday stress.

During the holidays it’s easy to say yes to everyone for everything. We tend to go overboard with all the shopping, cooking, sending cards and attending all the parties. It’s okay to say no to some things or all of them if you don’t feel like doing it this year. Try scaling back what you’re responsible for and don’t be afraid to ask someone to take over some of the tasks, so it’s less overwhelming for you.

With the current pandemic that is COVID-19, it’s hard to see the possibility of stress-free Holidays. All the more reason to remember to take care of yourself and learn to manage the stress so that it doesn’t wreak havoc on your skin.

Switch to natural skincare products.

Start analyzing what ingredients are in your products and do the research yourself to see what exactly those ingredients do to your skin. A lot of skincare products are labeled “Safe for Sensitive Skin” but when used, can cause hives or acne.

Our Eczema soap has proven ingredients that alleviate redness, itchiness, dryness and fight acne. Our ingredients are natural and include Honey, Oatmeal, Coconut Oil, African Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Sunflower Oil, Olive Oil, Cottonseed Oil and Lye. The only scent in our soap is from the honey, so it’s not overpowering and is completely natural.
